this big purple thing is amanda's gall bladder. the red stuff that's stickin to it, is her liver. this is called adhesion. it's not supposed to be stuck to the liver like that. after removal, it was found to be full of cholesterol crystals and other sludgey crap that doesn't rise to the level of gallstones but is still problematic. you don't need your gall bladder. my theory is that it's mainly useful for eskimos who eat raw whale blubber in vast quantities, and that the modern american diet doesn't demand its presence. this picture reminds me of something you'd see in outer space, not inside the body. i wish we had pictures of the inside of it after dissection. this is really cool
