my friend's dog died and she wrote this

y beautiful baby girl Onyx took her last breath today. She was 15 ½ years old.

Born out in Burnet at Bluebonnet farms on May 19th, 1995, she always had a heart of gold and an undeniable spunk that sometimes could get her in trouble. When she was young, I remember one friend nicknaming her Satin, as she could have a pretty devilish curiosity. But she always was “a lover not a fighter” and most enjoyed snuggling up on the sofa.

She did have a few other hobbies including swimming as often as possible. I remember her once swimming time and again out to the middle of a cove to “retrieve” the buoy anchored there. It was about twice her size, and … well … anchored, but that didn’t matter to her. And she liked to rock climb, or at least she would climb anything so not to feel left behind. I’d be in the middle of climbing a 5.9, huffing and puffing, only to turn around and find her right on my heels.

Eating always brought great joy. And she would eat anything. Check out my Facebook page for videos of Onyx vs. Serrano and some fun pictures. Plus she had a great wine pallet. And loved champagne. Ajay and I celebrated a few New Years Eves with Onyx & Maggie and a little champagne. It always made us laugh when Onyx lapped up her champagne to fast and ended up with foam around her snout.

I joked with her as she got older that I ordered an all black dog and I was returning her … as her snout was turning more and more white by the day. I loved her in any color and wish she were still here. I laid with her snuggled up against my belly as she took her last breath and told her how much I loved her, and I miss her terribly!!!
